The NRA is gathering applications for an NRA edition Tennessee License Plate. If they can get 5,000 of them, they'll send a check to the state and put in the order.

As Speaker of the House, Jimmy Nero Naifeh has long wielded power with an arrogance seldom seen outside of a tyrant's palace. Bill after bill passes the Senate, but Naifeh uses his dark and absolute powers to ensure that the House companion bill never makes it out of committee.
The one time that a pro-gun bill actually made it to the House floor, Naifeh broke House rules in order to kill it. If you doubt it just do a little digging and you will find the video of the House proceedings.
Lawyer, activist and TeamGOP principal Jeff Ward reports that just one day after Naifeh's hometown paper ran an op-ed penned by Ward in which he addresses Naifeh's hoplophobic record, Naifeh goes to the gun range. And why?
Strangely enough, Naifeh and eight or nine comrades attended a private class for their concealed carry permit on Saturday March 29, 2008. I guess Naifeh wants to get his permit to combat the negative press this fall in his re-election campaign.
Naifeh has fought arming the populace tooth and nail for years, yet he takes advantage of laws passed in spite of him in order to arm himself. Why the hypocrisy?
Could it be that Naifeh is about to loose state protection because he is going to retire?
One can only hope and pray.
Rep. Stacey Campfield has an anecdote that occurred while he was waiting for a piece of his legislation to be discussed. Frank Nicely's bill (Stacy's officemate) for allowing permit holders to carry in state parks came up. Campfield was shocked when:
Rep. Rob Briley amended the bill to allow people to carry any where except where not allowed by federal law(as long as they have a licence). Frank was dumb struck and didn't know what to say.
Where is the Rob Briley we know and hate? I had to applaud I was so in shock. Rob if you keep this up we may have to make you an honorary Republican.
I have my doubts as to Briley's motivation. Making a bill even more pro-gun is sure to draw Tyrant Naifeh's ire which is certain death for any legislation. Still, Briley's action is worth noting.
HT to Say Uncle, who is employed again for a bit.
Last season, only Memphis University School and Houston High School had trap shooting clubs.I always liked Ron Lollar. That changed when Shelby County School Board member Ron Lollar heard about the 400 scholarships set aside by the Tennessee Wildlife Federation for Tennessee high school trap team members across the state.
Lollar and County Schools Supt. Bobby Webb gathered interested coaches and sponsors to form four more teams from Arlington, Bolton, Germantown and Briarcrest high schools. To join, students must maintain a "C" average, cannot misbehave and must complete a Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency hunter's safety course.
And who would'a thunk it? The Commercial Appeal prints a story about kids with guns and doesn't descend into left-wing nut-bag ranting, not even a little.

We all saw what happened when the government overstepped its bounds in New Orleans: they started confiscating citizen's guns in direct violation of the constitution.
Tennessee state senator Mark Norris is trying to ensure that that never happens here through the passage of SB 2928:
Firearms and Ammunition - Prohibits governor from commandeering firearms or suspending sale of ammunition during state of emergency; prohibits state, public officials and local governments from imposing additional restrictions on firearms and ammunition during state of emergency or disaster. - Amends TCA Section 58-2-107.

These are posters created by Oleg Volk.He has a done a lot of pro-freedom work as you can see from this gallery.
Word has it that he has recently moved to Nashville and will soon be working with the Tennessee Firearms Association to turn out some materials to help in restoring gun owner's rights in Tennessee.
Reviewing his work leads me to fervently hope that this it true, as this is one talented guy.
See his entire gallery. It's worth the click.
The CA reports that the number of shootings in Memphis judged to be justified has reached 21 so far this year. Last time this year there were only 10.
"There's only one rule: If you are in fear of your life. What's the perception?" he said. "You have a right to act accordingly."
Received in a letter from the senator:
I am a strong supporter of Second Amendment rights. Gun control should not mean taking away these rights from law-abiding citizens and leaving criminals to terrorize the streets. But we must do something about gun-related crimes. As senator, I'll work with law enforcement officials from across the state to keep our neighborhoods safe. I'll vote for federal support to prosecute violent criminals, as in "Gun Crime IS Jail Time," a federally funded program in Memphis that ensures tougher, more consistent sentences for gun-related crimes. Good citizens don't abuse guns; criminals do.A few comments on this response from the senator:Because I believe law-abiding citizens have a constitutional right to the weapon of their choice, I support allowing the 1994 federal ban on assault guns and magazines to expire. I am also a co-sponsor of the Law Enforcement Officers Safety Act of 2003 to authorize qualified law enforcement officers with valid identification to carry concealed firearms. And because I believe honest gun makers, distributors, dealers, and importers should not be subjected to frivolous lawsuits brought by trial lawyers, I am a co-sponsor of the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act. This bill would prohibit civil suits for damages resulting from the misuse of firearms but would not extend to those who transfer a firearm knowing that it will be used to commit a violent crime.
Protecting our rights is fundamental. Protecting our Second Amendment rights is something I have taken a leadership role in doing during my entire public life [sic]. This is important because our Founding Fathers believed that the government should not interfere with the citizen's right to keep and bear arms. While I applaud congresswoman Blackburn's position, I believe someone should teach her interns how to proofread a letter. The legislation you mentioned would limit the number of guns an individual could purchase within a month and would also increase the number of steps a gun dealer has to make to sell guns. You can be assured that will not support this legislation [sic] and will work to prevent this bill from moving.
As a lifelong outdoorsman, I am a strong proponent of the Second Amendment. As Governor, I will focus on maintaining current gun control laws rather than enacting new ones. I believe that existing laws, if properly enforced, are sufficient in keeping guns out of the hands of criminals without illegally infringing on the rights of law-abiding sportsmen.
Again, thank you for sharing your opinion. Rest assured, I am deeply committed to preserving the right of Tennesseans to own and use guns. It is an important component of both our heritage as Tennesseans and our freedom as Americans.
