July 1, 2006Senator Don McLeary, New RepublicanWith the number of RINOs running around our state, it's nice when a conservative Democrat officially crosses over. Don McLeary did just that earlier this year and the party is supporting his reelection in the fall. The following text came from the most recent TN Republican Party newsletter:
Senator Don McLeary recently joined the Republican Party in February of this year. He was the lone Democrat who voted to void the controversial election of Ophelia Ford (D-Memphis). Don votes his conscience and has never been afraid to stand up for what is right. He exemplifies what it means to choose principal over politics. Don McLeary had the privilege of playing football at the University of Tennessee and remains proud of the part he played in the historic 1971 Sugar Bowl win. As a former head football coach and athletic director at UT Martin – Don knows what it’s like to lead and succeed under pressure. As the Senior Vice President at the Bank of Madison County, he understands the importance of sound financial management and the value of a man’s word. Today he applies this experience, coupled with good common sense, to help restore fiscal responsibility and integrity to state government. Don and his wife Mary live on the family farm in rural northwest Madison County where Don grew up. He is the father of three children and grandfather of six. Senator McLeary would be honored for you to be part of his campaign. You may contact him, request campaign literature or yard signs, volunteer or send contributions to: Don McLeary for State Senate, P.O. Box 11076, Jackson, Tennessee 38308. Biographical Information
